Büyükada is the largest of the Princes Islands and generally the one with the most to offer.

It has a awesome atmospher. To the left as you leave the ferry, you will see a handful of restaurants.

Yörük Ali Plaj, the public beach on the west side of the island, is an easy walk from the harbor and also has a little restaurant.

To see the island’s splendid old Victorian houses, walk to the clock tower and bear right. Carriages are available at the clock tower square.

The carriage tour winds up hilly lanes lined with gardens filled with jasmine, mimosa and ,imported palm trees. After all of Istanbul’s mosques and palaces the frilly pastel houses come as something of a surprise.

You can have your buggy driver wait while you maket he 20-30 minute hike up Yücetepe Hill to the Greek Monastery of St. George, where there are  three chapels, a sacred fountain believed to have healing waters and a cloth, string and paper that visitors have tied to the bushes and trees in hope of a wish coming true.

This is a popular Orthodox Cristian pilgrimage site. If you are lucky, the outdoor restaurant next to the monastery will be serving its homemade wine.
