Belfast Zoo is famous for housing many animals which are under threat in their natural habitat. Over 1,200 animals from 140 species call this place home.

The zoo thanks its sound reputation to its realistic recreations of the animals’ natural surroundings and in particular for its participation in the European giraffe breeding.

Therefore, there is presently a large herd of giraffes. They share an enclosure with Asian elephants. Furthermore, the zoo boasts a large and diverse collection of mammals, ranging from several big cat species and African wild dogs to sea lions, porcupine, large rodents and even chimpanzees.

Reptiles include snakes, turtles, lizards, geckos and chameleons. The Bird Park was recently modernised and is now home to such exotic birds as blue-bellied rollers, hornbills and turacos, as well as owls and geese.

On cold or rainy days, visitors can share the rainforest house, where the temperature is kept at a constant 27 degrees, with fruit bats and whistling ducks. To quench your thirst or to appease your hunger you can have a drink, snack, or meal from one of the cafes and stalls.

Afterwards you can pick up a souvenir to make a memorable day out a tangible memory. For more information, visit the website of City Of Belfast Zoological Gardens.
