Isle of Wight Zoo is famous for its displays of big cats and animals from that other, even bigger island: Madagascar! It is situated in and around the ruins of a Victorian fort on the coast. The keepers used to take tiger cubs for walks along the beach! Nowadays, though, the zoo.
Mainly looks after older tigers, giving them a happy place to spend their days. Their keepers now give presentations about the big cats during feeding time. You can also come face-to-face with jaguars and learn why they are threatened with extinction in the wild, or get up close with the iconic African lions.
The pride now features Casper, a rare white lion!
Brothers Charlie Brown and Snoopy are well worth a visit, too! In Lemurland you can meet four of the park’s seven lemur species, including the familiar ring-tailed lemur, but also some less common types, such as the black-and-white-ruffed lemurs, red-ruffed lemurs and mongoose lemurs.
Lemurs occur naturally only in Madagascar, like several other animals here: Meller’s ducks, Madagascan giant jumping rats, geckos, boas and even squiggly hissing cockroaches! For more information, visit the website of Isle Of Wight Zoo
