Galata Tower 2020… Galata Tower is a must-visit attraction in Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the symbols of Istanbul. Galata Tower is a medieval stone tower in the Galata/Karaköy quarter of Istanbul. It is one of the highest and oldest towers of Istanbul. It offeres great views of the Bosphorus and Istanbul.

Galata Tower is a cylindrical tower made from stone and it is approximately 67 meters long. Until the 1960s it was a fire lookout tower. On the 17th century, Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi (an Ottoman citizen) attempted to fly from Galata Tower to Asian Shore of Uskudar and he worked on his project for years.

During the Ottoman period, Galata Tower functioned as jail, observatory house, and watch tower. After the restorations took place in 1960, Galata Tower was commercialized and opened to the public. When should I visit Galata Tower? It opens at 9 AM and closes at 7 PM every day. It is possible to enjoy the night panorama of the Istanbul on the top of Galata Tower accompanied by a delicious dinner until 10 PM. If you visit on weekends there will be a very long queue. It will be better to visit early morning.
